Design Thinking Workshop is a learning and idea-building experience. The project’s approach can be defined as a collaborative learning setting that aims to promote profession-oriented skills, the students write problems together, solve problems related to their work together and dine together. It was organized by two institutions: – Pokhara Engineering College and Urja Lab Organization, which was successfully conducted in a day event occurring at a Swiss International Hotel in Lakeside.

For the event, participants will form teams with 3 members. Each selected team will be working on solving a thematic problem. The event comprises sessions where mentorship will be provided regarding programming and business ideas. At the end of the sessions, participants are required to produce minimum viable solutions corresponding to their original idea.

This program was mainly focused to make the youth more capable of various designing art and skills where their interest was. With the aim of Engaging, Exploring, and Empowering, Urja Lab was founded in the year 2017 by young entrepreneur minds. Since then, Urja Lab has been working its best to efficiently provide customized and well-updated solutions to its customers keeping into consideration their specific individual and organizational needs. With specialization in Extra-Curricular Activities, events, and programs consulting of corporate. Social Responsibilities, we believe in developing mutually beneficial relationships. We also offer specialized training, courses, and seminars on leadership, motivation, diplomacy, and debating.

There were various mentors whose profile are mentioned below, were guiding the participants to know the basic idea of design thinking:

  1. Mr. Ravi Bhandari 

Ravi Bhandari a native from Pokhara is currently the Program Manager at Nepal Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship Centre. Academically, he did his post-graduation (MSc in Environmental Science) from Tribhuvan University. He has also been a Biogas expert at Gandaki Urja Pvt. Ltd. and a Visiting Lecturer at Pokhara University since 2017.

  • Mr. Ashok Pokharel

Mr. Ashok Paudel is the founder of Pahal Group and Past Multiple District President of Leo Multiple Council 325, Nepal. He is also the Founder of Growing Bud Trade and Services Pvt Ltd. He is the co-founder of Namaste coffee. He has worked at a few organizations and companies that include Nepal Taxpayers Welfare Society (NTWS), GS. Gaire and Associates.

  • Mr. Binayak Paudel

Binayak Poudel is the founder/Chairperson of Urja Lab, one of the leading Youth organizations. He is the District President of Leo District Council 325 B1 (2019/20). Recently, he co-founded another startup “Gyan Hub”, a co-working space provider in Pokhara. He is academically a computer engineer but professionally is involved in different fields.

There were various guests presented in the program to support and encourages the mentors as well as the students. There are certain features of the events which are as follows: –

  • To make a relationship between teacher, students and administration
  • To make standard management for the college and to pass information among all the staff’s students and so on
  • To manage staff, student, course, session (add, update, delete)
  • To view daily attendance of students
  • To view results and backlogs of students

Thus, the design thinking workshop event was concluded in a systematic manner and participants seem very satisfied with the event as viewed in the review session.
